A former private landowner's summer retreat, the Casona de Yaiza is a grand summerhouse benefiting from a recent restoration which now makes it one of the most appealing accommodation destinations on the island. A group of local artists set about recreating the house's former glory in 2003, and the result is stunning - guests are treated to a tranquil setting of haven-like proportions, attentive service from the small yet professional team of staff and gorgeous interiors which evoke images of the Italian Renaissance.
There are just eight rooms at Casona de Yaiza, of which three are classed as luxurious suites. Each room is named after local points of interest in the surrounding Fenauso Valley, and the décor and furnishings found in each is sure to impress: innovative use of colour, elegant use of materials and clever use of light and space combine to create rooms that are something completely different from the norm. However, they do still possess the usual array of modern conveniences, including a classic yet modern bathroom with shower and hairdryer; satellite TV; room safe; direct dial telephone and private balconies (not with every room).
The remainder of the house and its grounds promotes a wonderful sense of sophistication and style, with artistic influences prevalent throughout, such as original painting, high vaulted ceilings, statues and sculptures. The 'Lagar' restaurant is a cosy establishment serving a generous buffet breakfast, top quality lunches and dinners derived from Canarian and Mediterranean influences. Guests can also enjoy the small but comfortable bar area, art gallery, sun terrace, outdoor pool and Jacuzzi and the splendid Canarian gardens.
